Established in 1968 Alaska Jundokan, formerly known as Anchorage Goju Ryu, is Alaska's first and longest running karate school. Led by Sensei Yurio Nakada, 9th Dan and North American Director, Alaska Jundokan is 501c3 non-profit organization and is an official affiliated branch of the Okinawa Goju Ryu Karate Do So Honbu - Jundokan, headquartered in Naha, Okinawa, Japan. The school has a long history of teaching quality, affordable traditional karate to the Anchorage community for over 45 years. Our school has also produced many tournament champions and qualified referees at the local, regional, and national level in both kata and kumite.
Our instructors bring a wealth of knowledge and experience, each having trained in traditional karate for over 30 years. Our school is family oriented and have many generations of families training together. In addition to our regular classes we offer specialized training in women's self defense, karate for special needs, competition specific training, and community outreach with our PenAir Self Defense seminars.
Alaska Jundokan strives to teach and develop its members to become better people with an emphasis on the Goju Ryu dojo kun, or dojo creed, and words to guide one's life:
